Course
and Performance Requirements
Students
who are offered a contract during the academic year, must complete
the curriculum outlined below to guarantee their admission to UMass
Boston. To be eligible, students must complete sixteen units in
specific areas -- a unit is equivalent to a one year course. Students
must take and pass courses (with a 2.75 average or better) according
to the following distribution:
4
units of English
3 units of Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry) or
equivalent
3 units of Science (at least 2 lab science course, 1 non-lab)
2 units of Foreign Language (consecutive years)*
2 units of Social Science
2 units of electives chosen from a list including courses from
the above area and others.
Testing
and Application Requirements
Students
must take and submit the results of the Scholastic Aptitude Test
(SAT) and as well as their high school records. Students who are
not native English speakers must also take and submit the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The TOEFL
score will be used to evaluate these students instead of
their SAT English score. The University requires a minimum combined SAT score
of 800 in the Critical Reading and Math sections. Students who need financial
assistance are encouraged to complete the Massachusetts Financial
Aid Form and the Free Application For Federal Student Aid Form by January 31st of their senior year.
Interested
students not enrolled in courses that meet the program requirements
will be advised to make the necessary changes if appropriate and
feasible. Once a plan has been developed outlining the steps necessary
to qualify for AGP, the student will be formally enrolled in the
program and asked to sign an educational contract.
Students
for whom it is not appropriate to change schedules will be evaluated
on a case by case basis. The program director and the school
liaison will determine if it is feasible for the student to complete
program requirements during his or her tenure in high school. If
this is not feasible, these students will be advised to pursue appropriate
alternatives, such as a community college.
